Concerned about Global Warming?
Now, for just $6 per month, you can help do something about it!

Global warming and climate change are a growing concern for many here in Vermont. The last ten years have been the warmest on record and it just keeps getting warmer.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency predicts that the climate will change because "human activities are [causing] the buildup of greenhouse gases primarily carbon dioxide. The heat-trapping property of these gases is undisputed."  Climate change could have serious consequences for Vermont's industries and way of life.

The U.S. Global Change Research Program says our sugar maple industry will decline in Vermont and our ski areas are likely to suffer.  Recent warm winters and record-breaking drought in New England show the weather extremes scientists agree we'll see more of.

  Here's what you can do:
You can support renewable energy and fight climate change.

Green Mountain Power is partnering with Clean Air-Cool Planet to offer you a simple and effective way to help fight global warming and climate change. Learn more about global warming and climate change

Now, for just $6 per month for a year, you can "neutralize" the CO2 emissions from an average Vermont home's heat and electricity by keeping six tons of CO2 out of the air. That's like powering and heating your home with renewable energy for a whole year! Learn more about household CO2 emissions

And there's no obligation.  You can cancel any time.

It works like this:
Clean Air-Cool Planet will use your $6.00 monthly donation to help finance the construction of new Midwest wind farms and to support efforts to build Vermont-based methane projects. To Date the CoolHome Program helped build the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Wind Turbine and the Essex Junction Methane Project, with the support of hundrends of Green Mountain customers! These renewable energy projects reduce emissions from facilities in this region and "upwind" of Vermont, where coal-powered electricity is the norm and contributes to local acid rain impacts.  You'll help preserve Vermont's way of life and help local renewable energy projects get up and running.

As a CoolHomesm participant, you'll help fight climate change and receive:

  • a customized certificate recognizing your contribution
  • e-newsletters about the wind and Vermont methane projects you're supporting
  • your name (or your family's name) will be engraved on a plaque at the facilities you help build
Tell your kids and your grandkids what you did to help fight climate change.

Climate Change and our efforts to reduce it:
In this country, burning coal, oil, and natural gas to make electricity is the single largest industrial source of carbon dioxide (CO2), the main contributor to global warming.  Vermont utilities have worked hard to provide you with sources of electricity that are low in CO2 emissions, and have strongly supported renewable resources like wind, hydro, and wood facilities.  As a result, Vermont customers' average household CO2 emissions are only 27% of the New England average for their electricity use.  Now, with our new Clean Air Cool Planet partnership, you can do even more.  You can effectively reduce your household's CO2 emissions to zero for a year.

The CoolHome Program helped build the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Wind Turbine, the first large-scale Native American owned and operated wind turbine in the country.
